Major William Lawrence Leverette (September 5, 1913 – April 7, 2003) was a prominent United States Army Air Forces officer and a "double ace" fighter pilot during World War II. He is best remembered for achieving one of the most remarkable single-mission aerial combat feats in American military history. Lieutenant Colonel William Arthur "Bill" Shomo (May 30, 1918 – June 25, 1990) was a United States Army Air Forces fighter pilot during World War II. He is best known for a single, astonishing dogfight over the Philippines that earned him the Medal of Honor (MOH) and cemented his status as an "Ace in a Day". John Richard "Dick" Rossi (April 19, 1915 – April 17, 2008) was a distinguished American aviator who achieved fame during World War II as an ace pilot. He is best known as an original member of the legendary American Volunteer Group (AVG), famously nicknamed the "Flying Tigers".
