WWII 1945 Army 90th Infantry Division Signed Letter, Envelope & Patch General Earnest. 1945 Letter from Major General Herbert L. Earnest to the recipient who requested a shoulder patch. The envelope is censored signed by MG Earnest. Overall, excellent condition. Information found on the internet: Major General Herbert Ludwell Earnest military service spanned both World Wars. Born on November 11, 1895, Earnest began his military career by joining the Virginia National Guard in 1916, during the Mexican Border conflict. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1917, he served with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment in World War I. During World War II, he commanded the 1st Tank Destroyer Brigade and led Task Force A under General Patton’s Third Army in the Brittany Campaign. Later, he assumed command of Combat Command A of the 4th Armored Division, playing a key role in the relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. In March 1945, he took command of the 90th Infantry Division. For his service, Earnest received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star, as well as foreign decorations from France, Britain, and Czechoslovakia.
