Description
Original lot of provenanced, screen worn, and photo matched Cavalry Officer overcoat, cape, and trousers worn by iconic actor John Wayne during his acting role as Captain Nathan Brittles in the 1949 hit movie She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. This custom made original set bears interior stampings from the movie costuming company, both of which have pinned on paper tags bearing the name John Wayne. A period green tag also notes the alterations needed for Wayne. These items are photo matched to the one he wore during the movie (see digital photos). It should be noted that John Wayne weighed over 200 lbs and stood well over 6 feet tall. This overcoat is marked a size 44, and the pants are also very large, both consistent with his unusually large stature for that time period. This set was acquired directly from a technical advisor who worked as a consultant for the Western Costume Company in California and personally purchased it, as is, from their warehouse many years ago. Of note, the paper tag with the safety pin is consistent with how the company typically labels items used by notable actors and actresses. Two buttons have popped off but are included.
