Lot 329:
Description
Original uniform named to General Lyman Lemnitzer (Fourth chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff 1960-1962, Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO 1963-1969). This is the exact jacket worn by Lemnitzer when he was personally awarded the Legion of Honor Grand Cross by Charles De Gaulle on March 16, 1967. This listing includes Gen. Lemnitzer’s tailor made dress green uniform jacket, complete with bullion 4-star ranks, U.S. collar insignia, LEMNITZER name badge, and custom sewn loops on the breast pocket to hold the Legion of Honor award (see photo from time of awarding for reference). This jacket was originally sold as part of an auction of Lemnitzers belongings in 2006. It features a stitched label with Lemnitzers name as well as a tailor tag with Lemnitzers typewritten name. Overall, a very historic uniform to a well-known US military & political figure. See photos for details and condition. Has some stains and small holes. Displays well.
