Description
Original as shown. Named three times inside, and the last photo (digital only from internet) shows him wearing the same cap as a Brigadier General. The stars are pin back Hilborn Hamburger Sterling marked. Major General Archie F. Howard was a career United States Marine Corps officer whose service spanned from 1915 to 1946. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he served in World War I and took part in several early overseas interventions, including duty in Siberia and the Caribbean. During World War II, Howard held important senior commands in the Pacific, most notably as island commander at Guadalcanal and later New Georgia, where he coordinated complex joint Army, Navy, and Marine operations. He later commanded the 6th Marine Division and served in senior leadership roles in the Pacific and in postwar China during Operation Beleaguer. Recognized for his administrative skill and effective leadership, he was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal and retired as a major general after more than 30 years of service.
