Hans Sehringer (March 21st, 1913-April 8th, 1985) 25.10.1941: Leutnant 2.(F)/ Aufkl.Gr. 123, badly WIA – Bf 110 E-3 coded ‘4U+XK’ crashed following engine damage during mission to Alexandria 19.01.1942: Leutnant, awarded DKiG, 2.(F)/ Aufkl.Gr. 123 09.12.1942: Oberleutnant, awarded Ritterkreuz, 2.(F)/ Aufkl.Gr. 123 for over 170 long range reconnaissance sorties. The following newspaper article (dated 15.12.1942) describes why Sehringer received the Knight’s Cross… “Knight’s Cross for 170 Long-Range Reconnaissance Sorties – Valuable Contributions in the Mediterranean Theatre: The Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Oberleutnant Sehringer, pilot in a Fernaufklärerstaffel. Oberleutnant Sehringer has successfully carried out over 170 long-range reconnaissance sorties in all theatres of war. His reconnaissance efforts were particularly valuable in the North African and Mediterranean theatres, where the results he achieved brought about a clear and continuous picture of the enemy’s air and ground situation.” This reconnaissance pilot won the Knight’s Cross in December 1942 after 170 successful long range missions. This signed photo is a copy of an actual period photo. The signature is original. The approximate size is 8 x 10 inches. The photo is in nice condition.
