Cloth armband issued to members of the French Resistance serving as translators and guides assisting the Allied Expeditionary Force following the D-Day landings. The armband, approx. 15 x 3.5 inches blue cloth with elastic strap, bears a printed flaming sword and: "COMBATTANT VOLONTAIRE AEF". Of course, most of the advance special force units could not speak any foreign languages, and these armed guides worked with front line troops in interrogations, translating and acting as local guides. The armbands also prevented their being shot as guerillas, as technically they were "in uniform". Comes with a US / American Flag pin.
