Description
Naval Air Reserve Lighter Than Air (LTA) Blimp Fabric & Patch. Named to Co-Pilot LCDR Bob Forand (ZP-11, ZP-911). This particular piece came from the blimp ZSG-3 K-46 which participated in Operation PLUMBBOB in which Forand flew the airship to the Atomic Test site at Camp Mercury, Nevada. ZSG-3 airship 46 participated during Operation Plumbbob to determine the response characteristics of the Model ZSG-3 airship when subjected to a nuclear detonation in order to establish criteria for safe escape distances for airship delivery of antisubmarine warfare special weapons. This fabric measures 2 x 4 inches. The diameter of the patch is 4 inches. Overall nice condition for its age.
