Description
Robert Goebel (February 28, 1923-February 19, 2011), a native of Racine, WI, joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 at the age of nineteen. He received his flight training in Texas, and by the spring of 1944 was on his way to Italy with the 31st Fighter Group, which had just transitioned to the new P-51 Mustang. After 61 combat missions he was credited with 11 victories, earning him the coveted status of double ace. When he returned home in September 1944 he was not yet 22 years old. Clarence Emil Bud Anderson (January 13, 1922-May 17, 2024) was a retired officer in the USAF, a triple ace of WWII and the highest scoring living American fighter ace. During the war he was the highest scoring flying ace in his P-51 Mustang squadron. Towards the end of Andersons two combat tours in Europe in 1944 he was promoted to major at 22, a young age even for a highly effective officer in wartime. After the war Anderson became a well regarded fighter test pilot, and a fighter squadron and wing commander. He served his wing commander tour in combat in the Vietnam War. He retired as a full colonel in 1972, after which he worked in flight test management for McDonnell Douglas. Anderson is a member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. He was decorated 25 times for his service to the United States. During his career, he flew over 100 types of aircraft and logged over 7,000 hours. The approximate size is 8 x 10 inches. These signed photos are copies of actual period photos. The signatures are original. Good overall condition.
