Description

WWII US Navy & New York Conspicuous Service Cross Named Medal Certificate Group. Attributed and Named to Navy Seaman 2nd Class Carl Arlington Bosler. Also, with the medal is a professionally framed NYS Conspicuous Service Certicicate. The Conspicuous Service Cross and certificate are numbered 7849. The medal is Marked A.E. Co. and Sterling. Included is an engraved 1944 Navy Good Conduct Medal. Information found on the internet: Carl was a Seaman 2nd class aboard the USS Cushing. She escorted vital resupply convoys in the operations around Guadalcanal. During the night of November 13, 1942, while patrolling the Ironbottom Sound, there was a bitter gunfire with Japanese destroyers. Cushing received several hits amidships, resulting in a gradual power loss. She launched her torpedoes by local direction at an enemy battleship. Fires, exploding ammunition and her inability to shoot caused the abandon ship order at 0230. Cushing sank southeast of Savo Island around 1700 hours. Most of the surviving crew were picked up later that night and the following morning by U S Navy ships. Cushing received three battle stars for World War II service. Bosler was wounded during the battle, and received a Purple Heart medal. He was released from the Navy on October 30, 1947. Overall, good condition for its age.
