Colonel John R. Martin was attached to the 2d Battalion (Airborne), 82d Airborne when he received the Soldiers Medal for heroism. His citation found on the internet reads in part: Soldier’s Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Field Artillery) John R. Martin, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2d Battalion (Airborne), 321st Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Brigade, 82d Airborne Division, in action in the Republic of Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. The Mess Dress Jacket with ribbons show this ribbon among others. You are also bidding on a Division 7th Missile Battalion, 2nd Artillery nicely embossed scrapbook named to John R. Martin who was Captain Artillery Adjutant at the time. Included in the scrapbook are official certificates, signed drawing from Fort Benjamin Harrison, RARE Gradumate Command and General Staff College diploma to Martins wife Claudette, plus more. All the pieces are loose in the scrapbook Overall, nice condition for its age.
