Description
Good condition flag of the Holland American Line which flew aboard the SS Volendam. Measures just larger than 7 x 12 feet in size. Comes with an inventory sheet from the Flag Heritage Foundation noting that it was donated by famed vexillologist and surgeon, Dr. Clarence Rungee as well a copy of a 1952 letter denoting its service. The SS Volendam was a passenger liner that was torpedoed by German submarines early in WWII, and then served as an allied troopship throughout the War. It was retired from service in 1951.
