Summer 2024 Militaria & Collectibles Auction
Lot 372:
Description
Original cloth Cross of Burgundy Spanish Military Ensign measuring 26 x 26 inches attached to an 80 inch wooden pole. The flag has faint writing on it indicating that it was captured by Marines in 1898 at Deer Point, Guantanamo Bay. The cloth is in overall poor condition with tears throughout, as well as a separation of the bullion fringe on one side. A previous owner attempted repair with clear tape, and unfortunately it would likely take professional conservation to remove the tape as it is stuck to the material and would cause further tearing if removed. As a historical piece, we recommend leaving it as is. This was from the Dr. Clarence Rungee International Flag Collection and notes indicate that it was captured by US Marines in July 1898 at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on the assault at Deer Point. This item will require special handling and to package it due to the length, and as such a $30.00 handling fee will be added to the invoice on top of the cost of shipping. Also, due to the size, this can only be shipped to United States based addresses.
Condition: See description for notes on condition. Please note that all items are sold as is without returns, so please ask questions in advance of bidding.
