1899 Harpers Pictorial History of the War with Spain Magazine Lot (26) Issues. We believe the issues were originally a group of 32. Harpers Pictorial History issues were available only by subscription. Present in this group are a total of 26 subscription issues. Each cover has a nice looking woodblock illustration by Edward Edwards. Each issue has 16 pages. Bound in illustrated brown wrappers. Introduction by Major General Nelson A. Miles of the United States Army. This group is a fascinating account of the Spanish-American War of 1898 with articles by war correspondents and contributors like F.D. Millet, Frederick Remington, James Burton, J. A. Cahill, J. C. Freemont, Arthur Dutton, Henry Starr Richardson and many others. Illustrated with color and black/white reproductions of lithographs, paintings & drawings by various artists such as William Thorne, J. A. Cahill, Harry Fenn, F. Remington, Max F. Klepper, Manuel Antonio Martinez plus many others. Includes color maps as well as black/white reproductions of photographs. With official accounts of campaigns, battles, Naval actions and bombardments. Publishers: Harper & Brothers New York / London. Approximate size is 12 x 17 inches. The condition of each issue varies. Some issues have detached covers or fraying along the edges. These issues are over 125 years old and are in readable condition.
