Description
Friedrich-Wilhelm Wangerin (27 January 1915-13 November 2002) was a highly decorated Hauptmann in the Fallschirmjager during WWII and a Oberstleutnant in the Bundeswehr. He was also a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. Wangerin was commander of III./ Fallschirmjäger Regiment 16 6. Fallschirmjäger-Division. His achievements include the following: Fallschirmschützenabzeichen (25 July 1940) Iron Cross (1939) 2nd Class (13 March 1943) 1st Class (25 April 1943) Ground Assault Badge of the Luftwaffe (6 June 1943) Wound Badge (1939) in Silver (17 May 1943) in Gold (9 November 1944) Ärmelband Kreta (14 July 1943) German Cross in Gold on 5 February 1944 as Oberleutnant in the 6./Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 5 Honour Roll Clasp of the Army (25 August 1944) Knight Cross of the Iron Cross on 24 October 1944 as Hauptmann and commander of the III./Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 16-Ost.
