Description

Group from WWII to Korean War Brigadier General Roland P. Shugg. A Boston, MA native, he was a 1916 Cavalry graduate of West Point who served with the 5th Infantry Division AEF in France during WWI. Between the wars, he served as Commanding Officer, 14th Field Artillery Regiment, and then Chief of Staff, 3rd Armored Division until December 1941, and then several Transportation and Ordnance commands early in WWII. As a Brigadier General in 1943, he was Commanding Officer Artillery, 70th Infantry Division, and then commanded XI Corps Artillery in Europe until 1945. He reviewed the Russian 28th Cavalry Regiment having crossed the Elbe River. During the Korean War, he was the Commanding General of the 3rd Division Artillery, earning a Silver Star. He retired in 1952. The group includes the following highlights:-WWII officially hand engraved Distinguished Service Medal numbered 7688 -WWII Wrap Brooch Silver Star numbered 113563-WWII Wrap Brooch officially engraved Legion of Merit-WWII Bronze Star with V and Oak Leaf Cluster (w/ Box)-Mexican Border Service Medal (later issue, not numbered)-WWI Victory Medal with three bars-US Service / Campaign medals for WWII to Korea-French Legion of Honor-French Croix de Guerre-Belgian Croix de Guerre-Russian Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class (numbered)- 1985 re-issue.-Sterling WWII Brigadier General Stars-Original Silver Star Citation Document-Original cases / boxes for some of the medals-Handwritten 1984 letter signed by Gen. Shugg-Old copies of many of his citations, records, etc. There is a modest reserve on this lot.
