Women of the War; Their Heroism and Self-Sacrifice. Copyright: 1866. Frank Moore was a notable American Civil War historian known for his portrayals of Civil War life and culture. One of his most important works was Women of the War. While this work focuses primarily on the biographical accounts of individual women, Moore also describes the hardships and sacrifices made by American women during the war and provides an interesting account of how these women influenced Gettysburg. Moore covers the lives of the following women, most of whom are wives of Civil War officers: Fanny Ricketts, Mary Brady, Kady Brownwell, P.B. Hurd, Margaret Breckinridge, Elida Rumsey Fowle, Bridget Divers, Isabella Fogg, Mary Lee, Pauline Cushman, Mrs. John Harris, Mary Shelton, Carrie Sheads, Mrs. Stephen Barker, Belle Reynolds, Charlotte McKay, Mary Morris Husband, Anna Maria Ross, Mrs. AH Hoge, Emily Dana, Burger Stearns, Harriet W.F. Hawley, and more. Published by S.S. Scranton & Co., Hartford CT. Illustrated with steel engravings. 596 pages. Approximate size is 9 x 6 inches. The condition is used with the pages having foxing from age. The covers show signs of wear. The spine has a tear along the edge. The inside spine is not tight from handling. Still very good readable condition.
