WWI – WWII Medal Group of Brigadier General Charles B. Spruit, Chief of Surgery, United Kingdom Base Sector. A native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, he earned an MD from Harvard in 1915. As a Medical Officer in WWI, he served at Fort Sam Houston, and then with the AEF in Siberia until 1920. He served in various assignments between the wars, and in 1942, became the Deputy Chief of Surgery in the European Theater of Operations, until October 1944. From then, until 1945 he was Chief of Surgery, United Kingdom Base Sector. He retired in 1946. This group includes his named and numbered Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Selective Service Medal, Siberia Bar WWI Victory Medal, and other medals as shown. Also a pair of sterling pin back Brig. Gen. Stars, Siberia Forces Patch, 1950’s era thin ribbon set, and the boxes to go with these. Comes with an extensive packet of research. His records were completely destroyed in the 1973 fire, so the packet contains a significant number of medical records that the previous owner was able to obtain in the mid 1990s.
