USN Navy Binoculars by Square D specifically designed for the Bureau of Aeronautics. When the mission was to observe movement across a wide expanse of sky or water then a binocular with a much wider field of view was justified. Several wide angle binocular models were commissioned specifically for the Bureau of Aeronautics whose vital work included reconnaissance (searching for U-Boats and other enemy ships), as well as search and rescue; these bear the designation BU. AERO as found on this example. The binoculars are marked on the left side of eye piece: SARD, PRODUCT OF SQUARE D COMPANY, FLUSHING NEW YORK, The binoculars are marked on the left side of eye piece: 7 x 50, BU. AERO. U.S. NAVY, MARK 21, F.S.S.C. 88-B-320. This auction house are not experts on binocular viewing thus we are unable to verify the exact condition.
