Army First Reserve Black General Benjamin Hunton Reserves Group. Large group of MG Huntons personal items. You will receive the following to include: General Hunton’s Officer Visor, 1958 Command and General Staff College Diploma signed by MG Lionel C. McGarr, Meritorious Service Citation and Certificate, Legion of Merit Certificate, Promotion Documents to also include appointments as Brigadier and Major Generals which are historically significant since he was the first black General in the Reserves, (2) framed pictures of General Hunton with President Nixon and Vice President Ford, framed unit photo, 1970 Plaque “Salute To Benjamin Hunton from the 1st Brigade, 80th Division”, US Army Signal Corps Bausch & Lomb Case & Binoculars with booklet, Major General Rank Flag, (2) 50 Star American Flags, childhood scrapbook, photos, Plus a ton of paper. Major General Benjamin L. Hunton (USAR), Howard University, Washington, DC. General Hunton was commissioned through the ROTC program in 1942. During World War II, he served as Assistant Professor of Military Science and Tactics at Howard University. He was the first Black general officer in the reserve forces. Hunton held several command and staff jobs. From 1972 until his retirement in 1977, he was commanding general of the 97th Army Reserve Command with headquarters at Fort Meade, Md., and responsibility for all Reserve units in Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia and Virginia. He graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College. In addition to an MA in History from Howard, he received a PhD in Public Administration from American University. A great historical group. Condition varies with each item.
