Description
WWII Pilot Richard Hewitt Duxford 78th Fighter Group, 82nd Fighter Squadron, 8th Air Force Signed Photo. Hewitt served in the European Theater during World War II from 1943-45, flying out of Duxford, England. Hewitt flew 140 combat missions recording eight victories with four in the air and four on the ground. He flew the P-47 and P-51 with the 78th Fighter Group and commanded the 82nd Fighter Squadron towards the end of the war. Hewitt was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 15 Oak Leaf Clusters and EAME Theater Ribbon with 6 battle stars for his service. Richard also served in the Air Force Reserve and retired from that service as a Lt. Col. in 1962. This signed photo is signed on a copy of an actual period photo. There is no certificate of authenticity that comes with this item. Approximate size is 8 x 10 inches. Nice overall condition.
